Getting Back To Me

I feel like we can all relate when we say we want to “change” — we immediately think of diet and exercise. While that’s something I do want to work on, those aren’t the only areas I plan to explore on my journey of getting back to me.
Weight is such a heavy topic (literally). While it’s often a big factor in how we feel about ourselves, every time I’ve focused solely on weight loss, it’s turned me into a robot and held me back socially. In my “getting back to me” movement, I want to lose weight and move my body more — but that’s no longer my main focus. My focus now is to be present with my husband and kids, to have the energy to do the things they love, and to actually enjoy doing them.
Do you ever feel like you just graduated high school — like you’re still that college student trying to figure out life? It seriously baffles me that I’m considered a “responsible adult” with a husband, two kids, and a job from a degree I earned. I’m 27 years old and still struggle to remember there my bills to pay, fill up my gas tank, do laundry, buy groceries, and schedule appointments. Won’t my parents just do those things? LOL — nope, that’s all me now.
That realization forced me to create schedules and routines for myself and our family. I told myself that in order to be more productive around the house and with my family, I needed to start taking care of myself. My first step was to invest in me — washing my face, putting on makeup, changing out of my PJs on my days off, wearing something other than sweatpants, and being intentional with my relationships.
First, I needed to declutter our home. I grew up in a very organized, clean house, and I’ve realized I’m most productive when the spaces around me are tidy. Have you ever watched Marie Kondo on Netflix? She was my inspiration to get my butt in gear and declutter! So far, we’ve tackled clothing, which has made a huge difference. Our home feels less chaotic and easier to manage day to day.
Austin and I even talked about creating a daily checklist of areas to keep tidy and a weekly cleaning schedule to keep us productive. We felt like that would help us maintain the kind of space we want — while still allowing us to unwind and enjoy family time once our daily or weekly “tasks” are done.
Secondly: nutrition and getting my body moving! I’m not here to tell you what diet to follow or what workouts to do. I just want to fuel my body with the right nutrients and move my body to make me feel good. I want to emphasize the “me” here — it doesn’t matter your size, shape, or appearance. What matters is that you feel good, for yourself.
Don’t do it because you want to look a certain way; do it because you want to feel a certain way. That’s been a huge mindset shift for me, and honestly, it’s still a work in progress. Lately, I’ve been focusing on meal planning, keeping healthy snacks around, and moving my body before I just collapse on the couch. Life gets busy — so instead of creating strict rules, I’m learning to roll with the punches and make the right choices when I’m tested.
Finally, I’m trying to be more intentional — with my words, my actions, and my relationships. I’m putting my faith first and praying about everything. I’m matching the energy and enthusiasm that others show me, and I’m stepping out of my comfort zone to show people who I really am and what I’m about.
Getting back to me isn’t about becoming someone new — it’s about rediscovering the version of myself that’s been buried under the noise of life. It’s about showing up with intention, finding peace in the little things, and learning to love the process instead of chasing perfection. If you’re reading this and feel like you’ve lost a little bit of yourself too, I hope you know you’re not alone. This journey isn’t about drastic changes or quick fixes — it’s about grace, consistency, and choosing you again and again. Let’s do it together 💛
